Commonwealth Brewing Companyは、妥協のない、優れたビールを作り、その経験を友人と共有することへのある家族の愛情の表れとして創業されました。そのひらめきは、創設者のジェラミー・ビギーが、当時2年間に渡り海外留学をしていた妻ナタリーの元を訪れ、共にヨーロッパの醸造所やビアホールを巡っていた時に突如火花を散らしたのです。しかし、その時はすぐに形になる事はなく、"ビールオタク"になるほど家を埋め尽くす醸造器具を買い込み、何年にもわたる自家醸造、ビールの研究を重ねた末、ようやく2013年にビール業界に参入します。

閃きの火花はやがて明確な目的と意志を宿した炎となり、燃え続け、コモンウェルスは、2015年9月6日に東海岸屈指のビーチタウン、バージニア州バージニアビーチで開業しました。それ以来、非常に飲みやすいけれど、冒険的で多様性に富んだ、こうであるものという限界に挑み続けるという志と絆が、人々をコモンウェルスに集わせました。ファームハウスエールの伝統、ホップが効くアメリカンスタイル、そして複雑な深みを誇る自然発酵に敬意を表し、尊重しながらビール作りに励んでいます。今は全国屈指のブルワリーとして評価されるようになりました。

彼らの仕事場は、チェサピーク湾にあるファンキーなビーチコミュニティ（ビーサン必須！）に囲まれた、元消防署の救助ステーション内を改装した醸造設備所。もともとは車庫だった広々としたタップルームのほか、プライベートイベントスペース、屋外ビアガーデン、そして長期熟成のための樽を数百本収容するバレルセラーも楽しめます。

Commonwealth Brewing Company was founded as the manifestation of one family’s love for making uncompromising, exceptional beer and sharing the experiences with friends. The spark of inspiration was ignited during a revelatory European brewery and beer hall tour while founder Jeramy Biggie was visiting his wife Natalie, who was studying abroad there for two years. But it wasn’t until 2013, after years of stove top homebrewing, beer geekery and a house too full of brewing equipment, that it was time to fully embrace the craft beer lifestyle.

Commonwealth opened September 6, 2015 as a result of next-level commitment, mild insanity, family, friends and a profound sense of purpose. Since then, they have grown into a tight-knit band of like-minded people who believe beer should be adventurous, diverse, extremely drinkable, and defy boundaries. Commonwealth honors farmhouse traditions, huge hop American styles, and the complex depths of wild fermentations. They are consistent regarded as one of the best breweries in the United States.

Located inside a fully renovated, former fire and rescue station built in 1962 and nestled in a funky beach cottage community (flip flops mandatory) on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, Virginia, their facility is complete with a double garage bay tasting room, private event spaces, an outdoor beer garden, and a conditioned barrel cellar housing hundreds of barrels of mixed fermentations for long term aging.
