春におそるおそる新天地をリリースしたとこと覚えているでしょうか。ラガーは造らないという前提で会社を設立した後、私たちにはラガーへの愛情が芽生え始めました。特にお客様の好みがヘイジーIPAやデザートビール（おもしろいけれど飲み続けられるとは言えないビール）に移行していくさ中のことです。この気持ちがとうとうラガーを造ることへの抵抗に勝り、ラガーを醸造するという未開の地への探検が始まりました。
この決断もできたビールもたくさんのいいフィードバックをいただき、シンプルかつ飲みやすい製品を求めているのは私たちだけではないことに気付きました。さらに、初めてラガーに挑戦してみて、このスタイルをもっと探求し続けたくなりました。そういうわけで新天地は帰ってきただけでなく、ホップや麦芽、酵母といった要素を変えながら、定期的に造る商品へと進化しました。
今回のリリースは、前回から進化して人気のイタリアンスタイルピルスナーを表現しました。イタリアのBrrifico Italianoという醸造所のTipopilsが有名で、クラシックなドイツ産のホップでドライホップするのが特徴のスタイルです。フルーティーな柑橘系のホップを使うインディアペールラガーや他のビールと違い、ドイツ産ホップによる新鮮なハーブのようなニュアンスがあり、ピルスナーのドライな後口と飲みやすさが増しています。
私たちのビールでは、少しレモンや草のような特徴があるSpalterというホップを使い、ラガー酵母のエステルを際立たせています。ベルギー産とドイツ産の麦芽をブレンドすることでベースのビールにはクラッカーのように甘い風味があり、ホップや酵母の特徴と非常によく合っています。仕上がったビールにはユニークなハーブや柑橘のニュアンスがあるとても飲みやすいラガーで、典型的なラガーや派手なIPLとは一線を画しています。
これを祝して、最初のリリースで使ったネックタグに代わり新天地専用のラベルを作りました。
カラフルでモダンなデザインも新しい方向への一歩です。このビールがKBCのラガー造りをさらに進化させてくれることが楽しみです！

You may recall that releasing New Frontier in the spring was done with some amount of trepidation here at KBC. After founding the company on the premise that we would not brew lagers, we began to realise a love for them especially amid customer preferences shifting to hazy IPA and dessert beers- products that while fun, aren’t exactly light on the palate.
This fondness eventually overtook our reluctance, and our first adventure into the new frontier of lager brewing was born.
We received a lot of positive feedback about our decision and the beer, which made us realise we were not the only ones who value of simple yet highly drinkable products. Additionally, the challenge associated with brewing our first lager made us want to continue our quest to explore other aspects of the style. Thus, not only is New Frontier back, it has evolved into a product that we will brew with some regularity, changing aspects like hops, malt, and yeast as we continue the lager adventure.
This release is a progression from the first and is a representation of the popular Italian Style Pilsner. Made famous by Tipopils, brewed by Birrifico Italiano in Italy, this style is typified by dry hopping with classic German hops. Unlike India Pale Lager (IPL) or other beers using fruity and citrusy hops, German hops provide to give a note of fresh herbs further enhancing the dry finish and high drinkability of a Pilsner.
For our version we chose Spalter hops, providing a slight lemon and grass character that highlights the esters of the lager yeast. A blend of Belgian and German malt provides a nice background note of cracker-like sweetness that goes really nicely with the hop and yeast character. The result is a highly drinkable lager with a unique hint of herbs and citrus setting it apart from a typical lager or a more ostentatious IPL.
To mark the occasion, New Frontier has also gotten a permanent label in place of the neck tag that adorned the original release. It, too, is a push in a new direction, with the design incorporating a colorful and modern touch. We are excited to bring this new evolution in lager brewing here at KBC!
