柑橘香るジューシーなアメリカンIPA。

奈良醸造では、約半年ぶりとなるアメリカンIPAのリリースです。Zappaを中心とした４種類のホップの組み合わせによる奥行きのある柑橘香と、ノルウェー由来のKveik酵母の掛け合わせにより、香り豊かでジューシーなビールに仕上がりました！

基本的なビールは、麦芽・ホップ・水・酵母というシンプルな材料から生まれますが、その組み合わせは無限大。IPAにおいてはホップの選び方が醸造家の腕の見せ所であり、カレーのスパイスのように配合や使い方次第で味わいが大きく変わります。

今回、奈良醸造では初めてZappaというホップを使用しました。Zappaはアメリカのニューメキシコ州原産のホップで、その名はロックミュージシャン・Frank Zappaに由来します。彼は1960年代頃から活躍し、ジャンルの枠にとらわれない独創的な音楽性で、音楽シーンに名を残しました。そんな彼の名前を象徴するかのように、Zappaホップの特徴はトロピカルフルーツや松、ダンクな香りと、とりどりの香りが複雑に溶け合ったもの。

「DOT」ではこのZappaに加え、Simcoe、Mosaic、Citraといった柑橘の香るホップを掛け合わせています。また発酵には、ノルウェーで古くから醸造に使われているKveik酵母を使用。これらのホップと酵母の組み合わせが、フルーティーな香りと濃密なボディを生み出しています。

口に含むと、熟したオレンジのような穏やかで甘い柑橘の香りが広がり、トロピカルフルーツの香りがアクセントに感じられます。後からスパイスや松のようなニュアンスが続き、複雑で奥行きのある風味が余韻に残ります。たっぷりとしたホップのアロマのなかに、しっかりとしたモルト感と控えめな苦みが絶妙なバランスを生み出し、つい杯を重ねたくなる仕上がりとなりました。「苦すぎるのは得意ではないけど、ホップの香りをしっかり楽しみたい」、そんな方にもおすすめです

Beer is fundamentally made from simple ingredients: malt, hops, water, and yeast. However, the possible combinations are endless. In the world of IPAs, hop selection is where a brewer’s skills truly shine. Just like blending spices in curry, the way hops are chosen and used dramatically affects the flavor.

For this release, we are using Zappa hops for the first time. Originating from New Mexico, USA, this hop is named after the legendary rock musician Frank Zappa. Since the 1960s, he has left his mark on the music scene with his boundary-breaking, innovative sound. True to its namesake, Zappa hops offer a distinctive mix of tropical fruit, pine, and dank aromas, all harmoniously intertwined.

In "DOT", we have paired Zappa with Simcoe, Mosaic, and Citra—hops known for their bright citrus aromas. Additionally, we have used Kveik yeast, a traditional Norwegian brewing yeast, for fermentation. The interplay of these hops and yeast creates a beer with a fruity aroma and a rich, full-bodied character.

As you take a sip, gentle and sweet citrus notes, reminiscent of ripe oranges, fill your palate, while tropical fruit aromas add a lively accent. This is followed by subtle hints of spice and pine, leaving a complex and lingering depth of flavor. Amidst the abundant hop aroma, a well-balanced malt presence and mild bitterness create a smooth and highly drinkable experience. If you're someone who finds overly bitter beers challenging but still wants to enjoy bold hop aromas, this beer is for you.
