テロワールは、ビールの最終的な味わいにどれほどの影響を与えるのでしょうか？このNZピルスナーでは、その答えを探るべく、親交の深いリブシとコラボレーションを行いました。

両醸造所とも、ニュージーランド産のネルソン・ソーヴィンを使用して、軽やかで飲みやすいピルスナーを醸造しましたが、リブシが「フリースタイル」ホップを使用したのに対し、私たち坂道は、さらに50km南に位置し、山岳地の微気候に恵まれたピキマイ・ファームで栽培されたホップを使用しました。坂道のバージョンは、熟したパッションフルーツと爽やかなライムの香りが溢れ、それらをまとめるような、ダンクなようの樹脂質のニュアンスが感じられます。

「テロワール（terroir）とは、土地、気候、地形など、農産物を育む自然環境の総体を指すフランス語です。もともとはワイン用語でしたが、現在ではコーヒーやホップなどの特産品にも使われています。」

How much difference does the terroir make to the final character of a beer? For this NZ Pilsner we collaborated with our good friends at Libushi Bashamichi to try to find the answer to that question.

Both breweries made a light and crushable pilsner using New Zealand grown Nelson Sauvin, but while Libushi used Freestyle hops we at Sakamichi used hops grown at Pikimai Farm, 50 km further south and into the mountain microclimate. The Sakamichi version is bursting with aromas of ripe passion fruit and zesty lime with a dank and resinous undertone to tie it all together.

"Terroir" is a French term referring to the totality of the natural environment—including soil, climate, and topography—that nurtures agricultural products. Although originally a term used in winemaking, it is now also applied to specialty products such as coffee and hops.
