ノースカロライナ原産の野生ブドウであるマスカダイン・グレープは、もともとネイティブアメリカンによって栽培され、古くから重要な食料源となってきました。今日では、マスカダイン／スカッパーノングは南部の代名詞となっています。粘り気のある甘口ワインを造ることで最もよく知られているかもしれませんが、私たちは常にこの在来ブドウの持つ可能性を世界に示したいと考えてきました。完全に発酵し、ドライな味わいを好む私たちは、この地域特有のこの逸品を扱うことを心から愛しています。ヨーロッパの栽培品種に比べてはるかに大きく、外皮が硬いのもマスカダイン・グレープの特徴です。南部の人に聞けば、皮に小さな穴を開けて中身を吸い出すのが一番美味しいと答えるでしょう。綿菓子のような独特の風味と繊細な香りが特徴の、ロゼワインをベースとしたこのビールは、夏があっという間に春に変わるこの時期にまさにぴったりです。このビールは自然な熟成によって、ワンランク上の泡立ちをお楽しみいただけます。お好みの缶詰の魚との相性も抜群です。マスカットグレープ本来の魅力を、今こそ活かす時です。

Rosé-Inspired Mixed-Culture Ale with NC Muscadine Grapes

Over the years, we have taken great pride in working with a myriad of local fruits. From doing so, we have developed some close relationships with a few in particular. The muscadine grape has certainly been an example of that. A wild grape native to North Carolina, the muscadine is perhaps the most yummy grape you’ve never heard of. Initially cultivated by Native Americans, they have long represented an important food source. Early explorers such as Sir Walter Raleigh marveled at their vigor and abundance and quickly fell in love with the unique grape. Fast forward to today, the muscadine/scuppernong has become synonymous with the south. Perhaps best known for producing sticky sweet wine, we have always wanted to show the world what this native grape was capable of. Favoring a fully fermented and incredibly dry profile, we absolutely love working with this regionally specific treat. Much larger compared to the European cultivars, the muscadine also boasts a tough exterior. Ask any southerner and they will tell you the best method for consumption is biting a little hole in the skin and sucking out the gooey innards. Boasting an unmistakable cotton candy profile along with a delicate funk, this rosé-inspired beer/wine hybrid is exactly what you’ll need as summer quickly comes crashing down on spring. Conveniently offered in a 12oz can, we conditioned this beer naturally for an elevated bubbly drinking experience. Pairing perfectly with the tinned fish of your choosing, it’s time we gave the muscadine grape the attention it so well deserves
